Kathmandu: Minister for Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building an investment-friendly environment for private sector to invest in the tourism sector. Addressing the annual general assembly of the 13th anniversary of Kalanki Hotel and Guest House Association here today, Minister Pandey asserted that the government cannot run hotels and similar businesses by itself.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Pandey emphasized the government’s readiness to welcome private sector investment in hospitality and tourism. He encouraged the private sector, stating, “the government is ready to roll out red carpet to welcome the private sector’s investment in the hospitality and tourism sector.” The Minister also urged cooperation from the private sector in regulatory efforts, aiming to prevent labor exploitation and ensure fair pricing for customers.
He highlighted the importance of customer experience by suggesting that guests should be treated in a way that encourages repeat visits. Citing the popularity of Thakali cuisine, he pointed out the role of presentation and warm hospitality in its success, underscoring the need for robust physical infrastructure alongside exceptional service in the tourism and hospitality sector.
The Kalanki Hotel and Guest House Association, established in 2066 BS, currently comprises 105 guest houses and hotels in the Kalanki, Koteshwor, and Swyambhu areas of Kathmandu. The Association, formed to promote the professional interests of its members, aims to implement a code of conduct for hoteliers, initiate a sanitation drive in the Kalanki area, and engage in other social activities to commemorate its 13th anniversary.
