Bodies Concerned Urged to Take Care of Passengers Stranded on Highways

Kathmandu: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has called on relevant bodies to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers stranded on highways. The authority emphasized the need for immediate arrangements for food and healthcare for those affected.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the NDRRMA issued a circular to all district administration offices urging them to coordinate with local bodies, transport operators, and both government and non-government organizations to provide necessary assistance. This move comes in response to the government’s suspension of long-distance vehicle movement from all districts until October 6, a measure taken due to the heavy to very heavy rainfall impacting various regions, raising the risk of floods, landslides, and inundation-related disasters.

NDRRMA Under-Secretary Ram Bahadur KC highlighted that the request emerged after reports indicated that some passengers, who had embarked on their journeys before the travel halt was announced, found themselves stranded on highways due to landslides.
