Lahan: Chairperson of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Upendra Yadav, has emphasized the need for restructuring the federal democratic republic to ensure the country’s prosperity and political stability. At a program organized by the JSP district committee in Lahan today, Yadav advocated for a directly elected executive head and a fully proportional electoral system in the country.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Yadav claimed that the current system has led to increased corruption, highlighting the necessity for restructuring these systems. He pointed out that the current electoral process requires significant financial investment, which in turn tempts elected representatives to engage in corrupt practices to recoup their election expenses, rather than serving the people.
Yadav further argued that the present system has failed to stabilize policy-making and has not gained the trust of the populace, citing the example of 11 government changes in the past decade. He proposed limiting the parliamentary role to law-making and suggested that a directly elected President should serve as the executive chief of the country, believing this change would foster stability and accountability.
He also proposed a constitutional rewrite to address the concerns of the younger generation, often referred to as Gen-Z, suggesting that their voices need to be better represented in the country’s governance.
