Kathmandu: The price of eggs has been readjusted so as to pay producers ‘fairly’. The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers’ Association on Friday decided to fix the new minimum support price for eggs, coming into effect immediately.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Association President Binod Pokharel stated that a crate (30 pieces) of extra-large (XL) eggs now costs Rs 560, large eggs Rs 545, medium eggs Rs 530, and small eggs Rs 325 per crate. He mentioned that the readjusted prices represent an increase of Rs 40 per crate compared to the previous rates.
The price increase considers the production costs, and measures are being implemented to control illegal imports of eggs into Nepal from India, thereby supporting domestic production. Additionally, egg consumption typically rises during the winter season. These factors, along with the price adjustment, are expected to benefit domestic producers by helping them recover production costs.
Last July, egg prices had peaked at Rs 560 per crate but had gradually decreased afterward.
