A court here today
convicted and sentenced a man to life
imprisonment in a case lodged over seizure of 85
grams of heroin in capital’s Nakhalpara area in
2017.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special
Judge Court-9 pronounced the judgment in absence
of the convict Mehedi Hasan and issued arrest
warrant against him. The court also fined him Taka
20,000.
According to the case documents, police arrested
Mehedi on February 12, 2017, with 85 grams of
heroin from Nakhalpara area. Sub-inspector Md
Rezaul Karim of Tejgaon Industrial Zone Police
Station filed the case under narcotics control act.
Police later filed charge-sheet against Mehedi. The
court on July 16, 2017, framed charges against the
sole accused and today came up with its judgment
after examining five witnesses on different hearing
dates.
