Minimum Wages Fixation Committee Act should be amended: Chairperson Khadka

Kathmandu: Newly appointed chairperson of the Minimum Wages Fixation Committee, Sangeeta Khadka has said that laws should be amended to remove the complexity of the committee’s work.

The government has appointed Khadka as the chairperson of the committee for the second term. She was appointed to the post by a meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Singha Durbar on Thursday.

After the appointment to the post, Chairperson Khadka said since she became the chairperson two years back, there were many complications in advancing Nepali journalism, adding that a 17-year-old Committee Act should be amended first to remove those complications in order for the committee to carry out its functions smoothly.

Chair Khadka said the Committee has not been able to work effectively due to the statutory provision that allows the committee to monitor the media, but not to carry out hearing into any complaints.

According to her, many difficulties have arisen due to having to operate the committee with limited means and r
esources.

“I am planning to take the committee ahead by eliminating the legal complications and limited resources,” she told RSS.

She further argued that both monitoring and hearing rights should be assigned to the committee.
