Kathmandu: The level of water in the Babai River has crossed the danger-level following continuous rainfall, posing a significant flood risk to the areas of Bardiya and Dang.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that the river’s water level has now reached 7.1 meters. The department considers a water level of 5.5 meters to be at a ‘warning’ level, while 6.8 meters is classified as ‘danger’ level. In response to the rising water levels, authorities are urging residents and local administrations to take necessary precautions.
Flood expert Binod Parajuli from the department indicated that district administrations, local levels, and the general public have been alerted through messages to remain vigilant. Additionally, the Mahakali River is also nearing the danger level, raising concerns over potential flooding.
The department further noted that water levels in small streams across Kavrepalanchowk, Makawanpur, Dang, Banke, Chitwan, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and surrounding districts are likely to increase, with a high risk of flash floods.
