Climate Change Impact, Agriculture Crises Resonate HoR Meeting


Kathmandu: The House of Representatives (HoR) meeting held today was resonated with the issues, especially related to climate change impact and agriculture crisis facing the country at present.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the climate change has amplified crises in multiple sectors ranging from agriculture, tourism, hydropower, and drinking water. During the meeting, lawmakers demanded that the government formulate and enforce immediate, mid-term, and long-term policies to address these pressing issues.



Thakur Gaire highlighted the impact of prolonged drought, which has led the three tiers of government to declare regions as drought-hit. He emphasized the importance of encouraging farmers with incentives and farmer-friendly politics to help revive agriculture. Gaire also urged political parties boycotting parliament to pursue dialogue as a means of finding solutions, warning that a boycott does not convey a positive message.



Gaire also raised concerns about the delay in passing the school education bill and stressed that capital expenditure must reach 85 percent in the current fiscal year, calling for lawmakers’ support to achieve this target.



Sita Kumari Lama brought attention to the significant problems caused by wild boar in Dailekh, where locals have been injured in attacks. She demanded a sustainable solution to address this issue.



Ranendra Baraili expressed opposition to the bill endorsing polygamy, urging early resolution of the education bill. Meanwhile, Bhanubhakta Joshi emphasized the need for adequate research on marijuana use for medicinal purposes, noting the potential for using marijuana fibers in garment production.
