Country Records 2,675 Disaster-Related Incidents in Four Months


Kathmandu: Over a span of four months, from mid-April to mid-August, the country experienced a total of 2,675 disaster-related incidents, impacting 4,725 households.



According to National News Agency Nepal, updates from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) revealed that these incidents resulted in 117 human casualties and 564 injuries. The data highlights that there were 198 flood-related incidents, leading to 16 deaths and 21 people reported missing, with floods affecting 1,313 households alone.



The report further details that 281 landslide cases resulted in 13 deaths and 17 injuries. Additionally, there were 174 incidents due to heavy rains, 244 from lightning strikes, and 74 snakebite cases. Fire-related incidents totaled 1,066, which included 158 wildfires.



The country also recorded 276 windstorm incidents, 153 animal attacks, 41 cases of high-altitude sickness, and five events related to earthquakes. Overall, these disasters affected 4,725 households, with 22 people reported missing.



On August 9 specifically, the country recorded 35 disaster-related incidents. The majority, 13 cases, were due to landslides, followed by five incidents from continuous rainfall, two cases of altitude sickness, and one each from a lightning strike and an animal attack, resulting in six injuries.
