Government Approves Relief Measures for Monsoon Disaster Survivors


Kathmandu: The government has announced relief measures for families whose loved ones have gone missing due to monsoon-related disasters. In cases where individuals remain missing for at least ten days, relief equivalent to that provided for those presumed dead will be distributed through the District Disaster Management Fund.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the decisions were revealed by Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, following a Council of Ministers meeting. Minister Gurung stated that relief will be provided for families of those missing since Baisakh 1, 2080. Additionally, the Ministry of Finance has been approved to settle liabilities from projects completed in the fiscal year 2080/81.



The cabinet has also decided to form a negotiation team to finalize a financial agreement with the World Bank Group’s International Development Association. This agreement involves a proposed 150 million USD concessional loan under the third phase of the ‘Bridges Improvement and Maintenance Program’. Sharad Ojha of Kanchanpur has been appointed as the chairman of the Nepal Insurance Board.



In other decisions, Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has been approved to attend a program in India focused on developing the drinking water and sanitation sector. The cabinet also approved the Land Registration (First Amendment) Order, 2081, for Gauradaha Municipality-4 and 5 of Jhapa.



Furthermore, Pathari Shanishchare Municipality of Morang has been granted permission to use national forest land for constructing an administrative building. The Indigenous Peoples Commission has been authorized to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Strengthening Friendly Cooperation’ with the National Ethical Affairs Commission of China.
