Kathmandu: A team led by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, conducted a monitoring inspection of the BP Highway, which suffered damage due to recent floods and landslides. The team included Ministry’s Secretary Keshav Sharma and Director General of the Department of Roads Bijaya Jaisi.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the inspection aimed to facilitate the operation of the highway by creating a temporary diversion along the approximately four-kilometre section affected by the flood. This highway is crucial for connecting the districts of Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces with Kathmandu.
Minister Ghising emphasized the importance of making the road operational swiftly and urged the engineers and construction entrepreneurs to expedite the necessary work. The Bhakunde-Nepalthok section of the highway had been previously damaged by last year’s flood. Although a temporary diversion was set up, the recent flood caused further damage.
Minister Ghising’s private secretariat mentioned that contracts have already been awarded for permanent reconstruction of some sections affected by last year’s flood. The contracting process for additional sections is nearing completion.
