Govt preserves mother language: Foreign Minister Shrestha


Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said the government pays heed to preserving and promoting mother languages.

Addressing the concluding session of the first international conference on journalism in mother language in Bhaktapur on Sunday, Foreign Minister Shrestha said even the government bodies can promote mother languages.

“Government should encourage journalism in the native language. I respect the media that disseminate news in native languages, because it contributes to art, culture, and history,” he said, adding that it further helps to keep intact tradition and originality of culture.

Newa Patrakar Rastriya Dabu organized the conference with the collaboration of the SAARC Journalists’ Forum, and FONIJ. The event inaugurated in Lalitpur on Saturday dwelt on various indigenous matters and their reporting status among SAARC countries.

The international conference was attended by the journalists from SAARC countries.
