ICRC Nepal Commits Support to Enforced Disappearances Commission


Kathmandu: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)’s Nepal Office has expressed its readiness to provide necessary support to the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP).



According to National News Agency Nepal, during a courtesy meeting with CIEDP Chairperson Lila Devi Gadtaula, a delegation led by Sandesh Shrestha, the Head of ICRC Nepal Office, commended the initial efforts of the Commission in line with its mandate.



Shreejana Pokharel, a member and spokesperson of the Commission, stated that the ICRC Nepal delegates praised the steps taken by the Commission and the progress achieved in a short time. The delegation expressed its commitment to provide any necessary support to the Commission.



During the meeting, ICRC Nepal Head Shrestha inquired about the Commission’s processes and procedures related to the investigation of enforced disappearance cases in the future.



Following the appointment of new office-bearers, the Commission has sent notices to all concerned offices and begun drafting necessary regulations. It is proceeding with its work in accordance with its mandate, as informed to the ICRC Nepal delegation.



The Commission plans to engage in discussions with conflict survivors and experts. It aims to outline a four-year action plan and proceed accordingly once the regulations are finalized, emphasized Pokharel, reiterating the Commission’s commitment to working in a survivor-friendly manner.
