Journalist Joytirmoy Mallick passes away


KHULNA, Joytirmoy Mallick, an eminent rhymer of Bangla literature and senior staff reporter of ‘Dainik Purbanchal’, a regional daily newspaper of Khulna, died of old-age complications in the capital’s Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital early today. He was 72. He left behind his wife, a son and a daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death. He was cremated at Postogola Crematorium this noon, family sources said. Journalist Joytirmoy started his career as a staff reporter at the Khulna- based weekly newspaper ‘Janatar Dak’ in 1974. He also worked as Khulna Bureau Chief of the ‘News Express bd.com,’ defunct the ‘Daily Banglar Bani’ and a contributor to the defunct ‘Weekly Bichitra.’ He wrote many rhyming books for children. Joytirmoy was the former General Secretary of Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), a former executive member of Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union and a member of Khulna Press Club (KPC).
