KATHMANDU: In a significant development for educational cooperation, Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) and Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) have formalized an agreement to collaborate on cultural exchanges, language instruction, and research activities. The agreement was signed in the presence of Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the memorandum of understanding was exchanged between LBU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Subarna Lal Bajracharya and BLCU Chairman Daun Peng. The agreement also entails the establishment of a Nepal Institute in Beijing and a China Institute in Lumbini, aimed at further strengthening the educational ties between the two countries.
The collaboration builds upon a previous memorandum on Volunteer Chinese Language Teachers, signed during Prime Minister Oli’s official visit to China from December 2-5. During the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Oli, who also serves as the Chancellor of LBU, expressed satisfaction with the academic partnership, emphasizing the historical ties between Nepal and China at the people’s level.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including National Planning Commission member Gita Kumari Poudyal Adhikari, LBU Registrar Dr Tilakram Acharya, and officials from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu.
