Maithili Society and Civilisation Promotes Coexistence: Chief of Madhesh Province


Biratnagar: The Chief of Madhesh Province, Dr Surendra Labh, has emphasised the Maithili community’s commitment to coexistence. Speaking at the inaugural session of the ‘International Maithili Conference-2025’ held in Biratnagar and organised by the Maithili Association Nepal, Dr Labh highlighted the strength of Maithili civilisation, rooted in its embrace of coexistence.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr Labh discussed the importance of developing language, literature, and culture alongside societal development. He urged a concentrated effort on advancing civilisation and culture to usher in prosperity for society. Furthermore, he stressed the Maithili community’s role in ensuring political stability and suggested that domestic employment opportunities could curb youth migration.



Minister for Tourism, Forests and Environment of Koshi Province, Sadananda Mandal, underscored the potential of Nepal’s natural resources to attract tourists. He advocated for the development and promotion of significant religious sites and encouraged visits from Indian tourists.



Dharmendra Jha, Executive Chairman of the National News Agency (RSS), argued for the promotion of the Maithili language in the context of upcoming elections. He highlighted the declining Maithili-speaking population and called for an investigation into this trend, stressing the importance of preserving Maithili language, culture, and civilisation.



Constituent Assembly member and politician Jitendra Dev urged collective efforts to preserve the Maithili identity, culture, history, and civilisation. The event, chaired by Dr SN Jha, President of the Maithili Service Committee, also featured opinions from Vice Presidents of Maithili Association Nepal, Pankaj Barma and Awa Anupama, Maithili writer Rambharos Kapari, and youth leader Umesh Yadav, among others.
