Sunawal: The development of the New Butwal Substation and an 18-km transmission line was initiated today at Sunawal Municipality-13. The event was marked by a function attended by Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal and the US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Khanal stated that the construction of this substation and transmission line would directly contribute to sustainable economic development. He emphasized that the project reflects the government’s commitment to expanding access to clean energy, promoting regional energy trade, and achieving national goals for sustainable economic growth. He further mentioned that the agreement would be transformed for national interests through the cooperation of MCC and MCA Nepal.
US Ambassador Thompson highlighted that the project has reached this stage due to the untiring efforts of the past two years. He expressed that the initiative would contribute to Nepal’s economic growth along with trade. The ambassador noted that the transmission line and substation are expected to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to households and businesses, thereby creating more employment opportunities in the country.
Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Bhagawati Prasad Yadav, suggested that the project should be advanced with the partnership of all, including local community members. The project, developed under the MCC Nepal Compact, aims to establish vital energy trade relations between Nepal and India and empower energy connectivity within Nepal.
The transmission line is designed to connect the 400 KV New Butwal Substation up to the Nepal-India border point. The project is estimated to cost 50 million US dollars.
