Minister Kharel Reiterates Government’s Determination to Conduct HoR Elections

Kathmandu: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel stated that the government is determined to conduct the election of the House of Representatives members on the scheduled date, actively engaging in talks and discussions with political parties.

According to National News Agency Nepal, after a meeting with the Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, at his private residence, Minister Kharel informed journalists that Prime Minister Sushila Karki is directly and indirectly advancing political negotiations. He highlighted that Coordinator Dahal stressed the importance of holding elections on the scheduled date, emphasizing that there is no alternative to elections.

Communication Minister Kharel mentioned that dialogues and meetings have been ongoing with all sides, including major political parties. These interactions have occurred at party offices and leaders’ homes, demonstrating the government’s commitment to holding elections on time, along with ensuring good governance and controlling corruption.

Minister Kharel further explained that the government continues to engage in dialogue and discussions with various groups, including youth, Gen Z representatives, and security agencies. He urged journalists to communicate to the public that the election is assured while the Election Commission, security bodies, and other concerned agencies remain focused on the election.

Top leaders of the three main parties expressed to Minister Kharel that they are not against the elections and view elections as synonymous with democracy. They asserted that receiving a fresh mandate from the people is the appropriate path. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba articulated that there is no alternative to elections, distancing his party from the issue of reinstating the House of Representatives.

Furthermore, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli conveyed his party’s desire to proceed with the elections, while expressing concerns about creating a secure environment for the process.
