Monsoon Disaster Claims 48 Lives, Leaves 28 Injured Across Nepal


Kathmandu: The number of people who died in the recent monsoon disaster has reached 48.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) stated this in its recently updated data this evening.



NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat reported that 39 people have died due to landslides, with 37 fatalities occurring in Ilam, and one each in Panchthar and Kavre. Additionally, six people lost their lives in floods, with one death each reported in Panchthar, Khotang, Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur, and Rautahat. Two individuals died due to lightning strikes, and one person in Udayapur succumbed to continuous rainfall.



Currently, six people remain missing. Among those, four individuals are unaccounted for in Rasuwa, and one each in Ilam due to floods and landslides, respectively.



The disasters have resulted in injuries to 28 people. In Ilam, 10 people were injured due to landslides, while injuries were also reported in Panchthar, Lalitpur, Bhojpur, Khotang, Udayapur, Makawanpur, Taplejung, Dhankuta, and Bara districts. Continuous rainfall has injured one person each in Dhankuta and Bara, and flooding has injured one individual in Khotang. So far, 18 people have been rescued by helicopter.
