Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (NC) has raised objections to the recent recommendation to suspend the passports of five individuals, including a former Prime Minister and Home Minister from the previous government. This move has stirred a political debate in the country.
According to National News Agency Nepal, NC Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel issued a press release today urging the interim government to refrain from actions that could be perceived as encouraging impunity or engaging in retaliatory politics against political parties. The NC’s stance highlights concerns about the potential misuse of power to target political opponents.
The controversy follows Gen-Z protests that occurred on September 8 and 9, prompting the government to form a probe commission. The commission recommended imposing a travel ban on the former Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and three other high-ranking officials from the Home Ministry. The recommendation is seen by some as a response to the protests, but its implications for political stability remain a topic of concern.
