Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has urged film producers in Nepal to prioritize showcasing the country’s rich nature and cultural heritage in their productions, utilizing modern technology to enhance the appeal. Highlighting the potential synergy between film development and the tourism industry, he emphasized the role of cinema in promoting Nepal’s unique identity.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Paudel made these remarks during a ceremony organized by the Film Development Board at Shital Niwas, where he presented various accolades, including the ‘National Film Award, 2080’. He underscored the importance of Nepali films in preserving and promoting the nation’s language, culture, and traditions, stating that films serve not only as entertainment but also as a powerful tool for societal awakening.
President Paudel observed a trend shift in contemporary filmmaking, noting a growing focus on narrative-driven stories that resonate with audiences, rather than traditional themes of heroi
sm and stardom. This evolution in storytelling, he noted, has garnered significant attention and interest from viewers.
During the event, the prestigious ‘National Film Award, 2080’ was bestowed upon the film “Bulaki”. Notable actors such as Bipin Karki, Swastima Khadka, Nischal Basnet, Mitra Dev Gurung, Shiva Dhakal, and Raj Bahadur Sane were also recognized for their contributions to the industry. In the indigenous cinema category, the Limbu-language film “Lojima” was honored, while “Jari” was acknowledged for its commercial success.
A highlight of the ceremony was the conferral of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to actress Chaitya Devi Singh, accompanied by a monetary prize of Rs 375 thousand and a certificate. Chaitya Devi Singh is celebrated for her role in Nepal’s first film, “Aama”.
Bipin Karki was declared the best actor of the year, further cementing his status as a leading figure in Nepali cinema.
Minister for Communications and Information, Prithvi Subba Gurung, also addressed the gathering, a
ffirming the government’s recognition of the film industry’s integral role in the vision of a prosperous Nepal. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the sector’s growth and development.
