Rajshahi city’s fame spreads in home and abroad: Mayor

Khairuzzaman Liton today said fame of the present Rajshahi has spread in home

and abroad as it has got a new look amid massive infrastructural and

architectural development works.

“Widen streets, cleaned atmosphere, road dividers with green trees and plants

and crafts, improved civic amenities and eye-catching street lighting at

night have made the city attractive enormously,” he said.

The mayor revealed this while addressing a press conference at the city

Bhaban conference hall here.

The city with a 10-lakh population has been familiarized as clean, green,

education, health and habitable in both home and abroad, Liton said.

Giving an illustration on the city’s development schemes along with

achievement of those, he said they have constructed 238.75-kilometer

carpeting roads, 260.30-kilometer cement-concrete roads, 350.05-kilometer

drains, 40.22-kilometer footpaths and 2,099.50-meter boundary walls.

In addition to the development of 29 Eidgah, 52 gra
veyards and one mortuary,

development and beautification works of 16 water bodies were completed.

Terming the propagandas related to his development works being spread by some

conspirator circles as baseless, biased and intentional, the RCC mayor said

the city people will be more benefited when the implementation of the under-

construction flyovers and foot over bridges will complete successfully.

He said they are implementing a project titled “Integrated Urban

Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City” involving Taka 2,931.61 crore

for its cherished development at present.

Problems related to unfit and narrow sections of the present drains and its

low-sewerage capacity were removed. All the culverts were widened besides

removing the silts from the base of the drains to enhance the sewerage

capacity.

He told the journalists that the physical infrastructure development were

implemented in order to attain the goal of developing the overall

environmental health system through building an effecti
ve and permanent water

sewerage system in the city.

He said they have adopted three more uplift projects amounting to Taka

2,705.08 crore for infrastructural development.

Chairman of Rajshahi Development Authority Dr Ziaul Haque, RCC Panel Mayors

Nizam-ul-Azim and Abdul Momin and Chief Executive Officer ABM Sharif Uddin

were present, among others.
