RSS Subscribers Advocate for Enhanced News Service


Kathmandu: The subscribers of the state-run news agency, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), have suggested improvements in its news service. They emphasized the importance of enhancing news quality and content to build full confidence and trust in RSS. A half-yearly interaction focused on ‘News Quality and its Effectiveness’ highlighted the urgent need for quality features, opinions, and investigative reporting.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief Editor of the Gorkhapatra national daily, Junar Babu Basnet, remarked on the commendable nature of RSS’s photo service but noted the necessity for improved caption writing. He stressed the importance of RSS maintaining its authenticity and credibility, given its long-standing role in the Nepali media landscape. Basnet also acknowledged the increasing significance of RSS in the current news ecosystem.



Editor at the Prabhav daily, Bishnu Tamang, acknowledged RSS’s gradual improvement in its services and expressed optimism for continued advancement. Sajan Subedi, editor at technologykhabar.com, pointed out the need for special language sensitivity and translation skills within RSS. Meanwhile, Baburam Acharya, Chief Editor at suryakhabar.com, emphasized the critical role RSS plays as a vital news source for all media types in Nepal.



During the event, RSS Chairman Dharmendra Jha assured that RSS would continue to enhance its news service despite its limitations and priorities. He reiterated that suggestions from subscribers would strengthen RSS and emphasized a commitment to continuous improvement. Jha informed subscribers of RSS’s efforts to prevent the dissemination of false, fact-deficient information and misinformation.



Deputy General Manager Raju Shakya, RSS board member and features section chief Krishna Adhikari, chief editor Uttam Silwal, and chief reporter Narayan Neupane echoed Chairman Jha’s sentiments, affirming their ongoing efforts to improve the news service, with valuable feedback and suggestions from subscribers.
