Sheikh Kamal was courageous, fearless as like Bangabandhu: Tipu

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said valiant

freedom fighter Sheikh Kamal was courageous and fearless as like Father of

the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“Sheikh Kamal was vocal to instill that spirit which Bangabandhu had dreamt

of building Bangladesh in such way,” he said.

The Commerce Minister was addressing a commemorative and discussion meeting

marking the 74th birth anniversary of the eldest son of Bangabandhu, sports

and cultural organizer, and valiant freedom fighter Shaheed Captain Sheikh

Kamal held at the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) building in the

capital, said a Commerce Ministry press release here.

Highlighting the life and work of Sheikh Kamal, Tipu said Sheikh Kamal was

very talented and courageous as he had no arrogance despite being the eldest

son of the head of state. “He (Sheikh Kamal) had a unique virtue of

associating with people while he liked to be associated with sports,

cultural, political and organisational activities,” he added.

Terming himself as a fellow soldier of Sheikh Kamal, the Commerce Minister

said Shaheed Sheikh Kamal had devoted his life for truth and justice as an

activist of the Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL).

Tipu mentioned that the defeated forces of Liberation War had assassinated

Bangabandhu with most of his family members as they had perceived that the

country’s people would be reorganized again if anyone from the Bangabandhu

family remains alive. “But, ultimately they couldn’t become successful,” he

continued.

Presided over by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti

Ghosh, CEO of Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute Dr Md Jafar Uddin, EPB Vice-

chairman AHM Ahsan, Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer

Rights Protection (DNCRP) AHM Shafiquzzaman, Registrar of Joint Stock

Companies and Firms Sheikh Shoyebul Alam, and TCB Chairman Brigadier General

M Ariful Hasan spoke at the function.

Commerce Ministry Additional Secretary Maleka Khairunnesa gave the address of

welcome while officials and employees under the Ministry of Commerce and its

subordinate bodies were present, among others.

Earlier in the morning, the Commerce Minister along with the Senior Commerce

Secretary and other high officials paid homage to Sheikh Kamal by placing

wreaths at his portrait at Abahani Play Ground in the capital.
