4,856 Houses Constructed for Needy Families in Karnali Province


Kathmandu: The Karnali Province Government has successfully constructed a total of 4,856 houses for poor and needy individuals across various districts in the province. These houses were built as part of the People’s Housing (Province), People’s Housing (Federation), and Indigent House Building Programmes.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development reported that 3,150 houses were constructed under the People’s Housing (Federal) Programme, alongside 522 houses built under the People’s Housing (Province) Programme during the fiscal year 2080/81. In the following fiscal year, 2081/82, the federal programme completed 380 houses, while the provincial programme added another 184 houses.



Furthermore, the Poor’s Housing Programme contributed 396 houses in fiscal year 2080/81 and 223 more in 2081/82. Notably, the highest number of houses, 181, was constructed in Kalikot under the People’s Housing Programme (Federation) in the fiscal year 2081/82. Other significant constructions took place in Surkhet with 142 houses, Dailekh with 38, and Jajarkot with 19.



Under the People’s Housing Programme (Province), Surkhet saw the construction of 33 houses, followed by Dailekh with 14, Surkhet with 16, Rukum (West) with 23, Jajarkot with 27, Dolpa with 14, Jumla with 21, Mugu with six, Kalikot with 10, and Humla with 20. The Poor’s Housing Programme also contributed substantially, building 36 houses in Surkhet, 39 in Dailekh, 13 in Salyan, 23 in Rukum (West), 23 in Jajarkot, 11 in Dolpa, 20 in Jumla, eight in Mugu, 30 in Kalikot, and 20 in Humla.



In total, 787 houses were constructed in the fiscal year 2024/25, demonstrating the province’s ongoing commitment to addressing housing needs for its most vulnerable residents.
