Kathmandu: Lawmakers have advised the government to be aware of the ongoing India-Pakistan tension and its repercussions in Nepal. They have also called on the government to pay attention to the security of a large Nepali population working in India.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during a Zero Hour session of the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting, lawmakers Sher Bahadur Kunwar, Shishir Khanal, Bina Jaisawal, and Saraswoti Bajimaya demanded the government focus on border security, the safety of Nepali citizens in India and Pakistan, and the rescue of Nepali students from Pakistan amidst the growing tension between the two South Asian neighbors.
Shanti Shrestha urged the government to allocate a dedicated budget for enabling the public movement of people with disabilities, while Shiva Nepali emphasized the need for timely preparations for potential monsoon hazards.
Legislators Shobha Gyawali, Shankar Bhandari, Saraswoti Bajimaya, and Ahamad Farooqi stressed the importance of promoting the agricultural sector by ensuring the smooth supply of seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation, and increasing production at the local level.
Dr. Swarnim Wagle called on the government to address issues at Nepal’s borders with India and China, urging for improved management and security measures.
Sarita Bhusal advocated for adequate funds in the next fiscal year’s budget to upgrade the Bhutaha-Amabas-Dumkibas road, which is an alternative route for the Daunne section of the East-West Highway. She highlighted that the road’s construction could provide access to rural populations and serve as a tourist route.
Sitakumari Rana expressed concerns about the insufficient implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, despite its ratification. She stressed the need for the upcoming budget to be child-friendly to fulfill Nepal’s commitments to the international community.
