Mustang: US Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson has arrived here to observe and promote the cultural heritage of the region. The visit is aimed at strengthening the partnership between Nepal and the US and contributing to sustainable tourism, economic growth, and cultural continuity.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the US Embassy in Nepal has stated that Ambassador Thompson is visiting Mustang to explore the cultural heritage sites that have been restored with the support of the US government’s Ambassadors’ Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP). During his visit, he will engage in discussions and interactions with the local community and project teams.
As part of the on-site observation, Ambassador Thompson is scheduled to attend the Tiji festival in Upper Mustang starting on Saturday. Today, he inspected the monastery in Jhong of Waragung Mukti Kshetra-2, which was renovated with the support from AFCP.
Assistance has been received for three projects through AFCP in Mustang. Ambassador Thompson plans to visit several monasteries, including Gonpa Gang, Loghekar (Ghar monastery), and Jampa Lhakhang, Thupchen, and Chode in Lomanthang, underscoring the ongoing collaboration and cultural preservation efforts.
