Kathmandu: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has described her five-day visit to Japan as ‘fruitful’, emphasizing the strengthening of Nepal-Japan relations and expansion of cooperation in various development sectors.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr Rana informed media persons upon her return last night that she engaged in significant meetings with Japanese officials, including Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi. The discussions covered topics such as enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation on numerous projects. Dr Rana remarked that the visit also allowed her to understand Japan’s policies and welfare systems for senior citizens.
A bilateral meeting between Dr Rana and Takeshi delved into the intricacies of Nepal-Japan relations, mutual interests, and shared global concerns. Dr Rana expressed her gratitude for Japan’s ongoing support in Nepal’s development journey.
On May 23, Dr Rana met with Dr Tanaka Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to discuss the timely implementation and completion of JICA-funded projects in Nepal. She thanked Japan for its enduring support towards Nepal’s economic and social development efforts.
Additionally, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, IKUINA Akiko, paid a courtesy call on Dr Rana during the “Sagarmatha Sambad” in Kathmandu last week. Dr Rana appreciated Akiko’s active participation in the dialogue.
While in Japan, Dr Rana addressed an international conference on senior citizens in Tokyo, sharing insights on Nepal’s efforts and challenges in policy development and welfare for senior citizens.
Upon her arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Dr Rana was welcomed by officials, including Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai. Dr Rana had embarked on her visit to Japan last Monday.
