Use of AI in Fine Arts is Useful, Say Artists


Kathmandu: Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, Naradamani Hartamchhali, has emphasized that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) should align with contemporary demands. During an interaction on ‘AI in Fine Arts’ organized by the NAFA, he highlighted the potential for AI to be integrated into fine arts by establishing a standard to identify ‘AI generated’ art and noted the inevitable role of AI in the field.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Member-Secretary of the Academy, Devendra Kumar Kafle ‘Thumkeli’, remarked that the appropriate use of technology, including AI, can yield positive outcomes. He suggested that technological advancements should be embraced as needed, which would further benefit creative artists.



The event also featured a presentation by writer and journalist Ajay Sharma, who discussed the background, development, use, and impact of AI in fine arts. President of the Society of Fine Arts Journalists (SOFAJ), Keshav Raj Khanal, responded to Sharma’s presentation by pointing out the necessity of being aware of future challenges due to AI’s widespread use, and he emphasized the need for classifying AI-generated art.



Sauraganga Darshandhari, Head of the NAFA Department of Multidimensional and Other Creative Arts, added that AI’s effectiveness in fine arts depends on proper guidance and a detailed understanding of the technology.
