Dhangadhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs is taking decisive action following a severe incident at Kailali Prison, where a clash between inmates resulted in one death and 44 injuries. The Ministry has announced plans to airlift a critically injured inmate to Kathmandu for advanced medical treatment.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been actively involved in understanding the situation by consulting with the Home Secretary and chiefs of the three main security bodies. This engagement has led to the decision to enhance security measures at the prison to prevent future incidents.
The Ministry, after assessing the situation, has decided to use a Nepali Army helicopter to transport the critically injured inmate, who is currently receiving medical care at Seti Provincial Hospital, to Kathmandu. Home Ministry Spokesperson Ananda Kafle confirmed that both the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force are intensifying their security protocols to ensure the safety of the prison.
A sky truck from the Nepali Army has already been dispatched to Dhangadhi to facilitate the airlift of the injured inmate. The recent clash occurred between inmates housed in Block ‘A’ and Block ‘B’ of the Kailali Jail, exacerbating the overcrowded conditions, as the facility currently holds 680 inmates despite having a capacity for only 100.
In response to the violence, a significant number of police personnel have been deployed to stabilize the situation and restore order within the prison complex.
