Birgunj: Sixteen different types of foodstuffs worth Rs 5.89 billion have been imported via the Birgunj checkpoint in the first four months of the current fiscal year. This figure represents an increase of Rs 1.24 billion compared to the same period in the last fiscal year.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief of Birgunj Customs Office, Bishnu Prasad Gyawali, reported that maize accounted for a significant portion of the imports, with Rs 2.29 billion worth brought into the country. Additionally, paddy imports reached a value of Rs 2.1 billion during this period.
Rice was another major import through the Birgunj checkpoint, with a total worth of Rs 1.6 billion, as noted by Gyawali.
