BP Highway Closed for Eight Hours as Search for Missing Woman Continues

Kavre: The BP Highway has been closed for eight hours after the flooded Roshi stream swept away a diversion on Monday night. The diversion at Mapti was eroded by the flooded river, resulting in a complete halt in vehicular movement, according to the District Police Office. It informed that efforts to resume the highway were ongoing.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Min Bahadur Ghale, stated that the road section towards Mangaltar from Roshi rural municipality-12 was damaged by the flood. The police team and locals have been collaborating to reopen the road for one-way traffic. A total of 17 passengers were stranded due to the vehicular disruption and were subsequently rescued by the local police.

The diversion was constructed at the location where the BP Highway had suffered severe damages during the floods last September. Meanwhile, the search for a woman missing in the flood since Monday afternoon is ongoing. Renuka Giri, 33, from Subbagaon of Panauti municipality-5, went missing at 6:00 pm Monday after being swept away by the flooded Dhalmale rivulet while returning home from a festival.

The police had paused the search for the woman after midnight, which was resumed early this morning. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ghale further informed that a joint team of Nepal Police, Nepali Army, and the Armed Police Force has been mobilized to search for the missing woman. The sudden rainfall in the Panauti Bus Park area resulted in the inundation of the vicinity.
