CC Should Not Be Held Hostage to Indecision: Minister Gurung


Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has stated that the Constitutional Council meetings should not be held hostage to indecision. Minister Gurung was speaking during a discussion on the Bill designed to amend the Constitutional Council (Function, Duties, Powers and Procedures) Act, 2066, at a meeting of the Legislative Management Committee under the National Assembly.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Gurung highlighted that the appointment process by the Council has been delayed due to the lack of regular meetings. He stressed the need for creating an environment conducive to regular council meetings, emphasizing that the council should not be paralyzed by indecision for any reason.



Minister Gurung further stressed the importance of unanimous recommendations by the Council. He mentioned that participation of the main opposition party representative in meetings is crucial, and that collaboration is essential to ensure smooth functioning of state operations.



During the discussion on the bill, several MPs, including Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar, Gopi Bahadur Sarki, Madan Kumari Shah, Ghanashyam Rijal, Bhagwati Neupane, Renu Chand, and Suresh Kumar Ale Magar, expressed the view that the bill should align with the spirit of the constitution.



Committee chair Tulsa Kumari Dahal noted that the discussion on principles was conducted today to amend the Council Act, with a detailed clause-wise discussion scheduled for the next meeting.
