Nagarkot: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced that citizens’ right to receive early warning notices for disasters will be guaranteed by 2030. At a national workshop focused on early disaster warning held in Nagarkot on Thursday, the Home Minister emphasized that this initiative aims to implement the early warning notice system for every citizen within the next five years.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Home Minister highlighted the effectiveness of the early warning notice system in reducing humanitarian losses, even during severe weather events such as heavy rain. He noted that while recent flooding in the Rasuwa district led to significant loss of life due to the absence of early warnings, a cloudburst in Kanchanpur district last year resulted in no humanitarian casualties, thanks to the early warning system in place.
During the workshop, participants underscored the importance of proactive engagement from all three levels of government in preventing disasters related to the monsoon season.
