Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has affirmed that the current political coalition will continue to function until the general elections scheduled for 2084. He emphasized that the government does not intend to engage in political vendettas against individuals currently remanded to police custody for alleged involvement in substantial cooperative fraud.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during a session of the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Oli addressed concerns regarding the government’s actions, noting that this is not an unprecedented situation. He reminded the assembly that high-profile political figures have faced custody in the past under similar circumstances.
Prime Minister Oli clarified that narratives suggesting governmental efforts to exact political revenge on individuals under investigation are misleading. He criticized the continuous parliamentary obstruction by lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who oppose the detention of their party Chair, Rabi Lamichhane, citing allegations of cooperative fraud.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of reinforcing the democratic pillars – parliament, government, and judiciary – and ensuring they remain uninfluenced by what he termed as “mass manipulation.” He assured that judicial decisions are made independently and are free from governmental interference.
Additionally, PM Oli reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering political and policy stability and reviving the economy. He cautioned against using the parliament as a means to generate social media content founded on false and misleading narratives.
