Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that actions against the Constitution and democratic systems are causing obstructions in the House sessions. Launching the book ‘Democracy and People’s Verdict: Electoral History of Nepal,’ authored by former Chief Election Commissioner Surya Prasad Shrestha, PM Oli criticized this behavior as anarchic and anti-democratic, highlighting the tendency to damage the system from within.
According to National News Agency Nepal, PM Oli specifically referred to the ongoing obstruction and boycotting of the House of Representatives by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Despite these challenges, he acknowledged the necessity of addressing the weaknesses present in the implementation process of the democratic system.
The Prime Minister emphasized that in a democratic system, the government is accountable to the people, acting as a manager and server rather than a ruler. He asserted that the mission of the government is to ensure good governance and prosperity, warning against the dangers of anarchic behavior undermining the rule of law.
During the event, PM Oli also defended comments made by speakers regarding the expensive nature of Nepal’s electoral system, noting that candidates often spend significant amounts of money on elections. The book launch included reviews by Prof Dr Bipin Adhikari, Mohana Ansari, and Dr Gopal Krishna Shivakoti, who provided their insights into the electoral history of Nepal.
