Fact-Based, Credible Journalism Need of Hour: Minister Gurung


Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, emphasized the importance of journalism rooted in facts and values during his address at the 26th anniversary function of the Federation of Nepali Indigenous Journalists (FoNIJ) in the federal capital on Tuesday. He highlighted that such journalism helps journalists gain impartiality, credibility, and accountability, particularly noting the significant contributions made by the indigenous community in the media sector.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister for Youths and Sports, Teju Lal Chaudhari, underscored the potential of FoNIJ to spearhead a comprehensive campaign through journalism to ensure the rights of indigenous people are adequately heard and addressed. He reminded attendees of the influential role journalists can play in shaping policy.



FoNIJ Chair Lakki Chaudhari expressed the organization’s commitment to actively promoting indigenous issues. She highlighted that journalists from the indigenous community aim to enhance their visibility through training, seminars, research, and participation in international forums.



During the event, journalists from the indigenous community were recognized and honored with cash prizes for their contributions.
