Jyapu Day for Respecting Culture, Identity: Deputy Mayor Dangol


Kathmandu: Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, has emphasized that Jyapu Day should reflect the identity and existence of the indigenous Jyapu community. At a program organized by the Jyapu Culture Development Trust on the occasion of the 22nd Jyapu Day, Deputy Mayor Dangol reminded attendees that protecting and promoting the identity and existence of the Jyapu society is the responsibility of the government.



According to National News Agency Nepal, this day highlights the hard work and cultural specificities of the Jyapu people. Deputy Mayor Dangol mentioned that Yomari is not merely a food item but a symbol of prosperity, fertility, and family unity. She stated that Jyapu Day and this festival go beyond tradition and represent a true identity. The Deputy Mayor also remarked that Yomari Punhi and Jyapu Day provide opportunities to express a commitment to the soil and respect for the land, emphasizing the importance of retaining the philosophical values associated with the cultural significance of this festival.



Similarly, Chairperson of the Jyapu Culture Development Trust, Mangal Krishna Singh, shared insights on the numerous cultural heritages in Nepal that deserve inclusion in the World Heritage List. He stressed the significant roles that original music, festivals, and traditional worship methods play in the protection of cultural heritage.



The program, held at Basantapur Durbar Square, was attended by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, and other high-ranking officials.
