Kathmandu: Lalitpur City FC has won the title of the second edition of Nepal Super League (NSL) football tournament.
In the final match held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureswar this evening, Lalitpur defeated Dhangadhi FC by 3-2 to be crowned the new champions.
Along with the title, Lalitpur won a cash prize of Rs 7 million. This is the second time that Dhangadhi finished second in the tournament, and walked home with Dhangadhi 2 million rupees.
In the match, Dhangadi took the lead in the 37th minute of the match, with Afij Olawale scoring a goal. However, in the extra time of the first half of the game, Imoh Ezekiel of Lalitpur scored to bring the match to a 1-1 tie at half time.
Dinesh Henjan made it 2-1 for Lalitpur with a goal in the 50th minute, which was doubled by Imoh Ezekiel in the 58th minute for his second individual goal, giving Lalitpur a 3-1 lead.
In the extra time of the second half of the game, Ahmed Hijaji of Dhangadhi closed the margin of defeat to make it 3-2, but could not stop Lalitp
ur from lifting its maiden trophy.
