Lawmakers Urge Immediate Government Action for Humla Landslide Victims


Kathmandu: Lawmakers have drawn the attention of the government towards contemporary issues. During zero hour of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, they urged the government to take initiatives immediately to rescue the people affected from the landslide at Tilgaun of Namkha rural municipality-6 in Humla district and provide relief to them.



According to National News Agency Nepal, lawmakers Gyan Bahadur Shahi and Surya Kumari Shrestha emphasized the urgent need for the government to rescue the landslide victims in Humla, expressing concern that five days have passed since the disaster occurred. They also insisted on swift relief arrangements for those impacted by the calamity.



Dr. Swarnim Wagle highlighted the importance of expediting the construction of the second water reservoir-based hydropower project in Tanahun, stressing that any delay should be avoided. Meanwhile, Sita Kumari Rana called for the government to enhance pre-warning systems to protect the public from potential rainfall-induced losses, given the forecast of three more days of rain.



In addition, Sita Mijar underscored the necessity of digitalizing government systems, while Sunita Baral advocated for prioritizing information technology development in the country’s economic progress. Sumana Shrestha urged timely justice for victims of loan sharks and the resolution of their issues, whereas Sushila Sirpali called for increased employment opportunities within the country.



Suhang Nembang emphasized the effective implementation of plans, and Sushila Shrestha advised that government employees who fail to maintain good governance should be held accountable under the law. Furthermore, Surya Prasad Dhakal requested a briefing on the current losses faced by the Nepal Electricity Authority, while Surya Bahadur Thapa demanded that projects proposed by the elected House of Representatives be considered during budget allocation.



Other members of the House of Representatives, including Hari Dhakal, Hemraj Rai, and Gyan Basnet Subedi, also expressed their concerns about various contemporary issues, urging the government to take necessary actions.
