Nepal Day Parade Showcases Nepali Culture in New York


New York: The Nepali community in New York held the Nepal Day Parade on Sunday, celebrating the annual event that aims to promote Nepal’s tourism.



According to National News Agency RSS, the event saw enthusiastic participation from the Nepali community, with attendees from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Participants adorned in Nepali costumes carried national flags and various banners, showcasing their cultural pride.



The parade was inaugurated by New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Senator Chuck Sumner. They commended the Nepali art and culture, highlighting how the annual Nepal Day event contributes to New York’s cultural diversity. Traditional performances, including panchebaja, bhajans, deuda and hudkeli, sorathi, Maithili, Sherpa, and Tamang selo, took place in Manhattan.



Gokul Shrestha, Tourism Promoter of the Government of Nepal, noted that the Nepal Day Parade introduces Nepal to the world and garners attention from New York’s diverse community. Organized annually on Republic Day, the event is coordinated by the Non-Resident Nepali Association, America, New York Chapter, with over a dozen Nepali community organizations participating. The event was chaired by Tshiring Sherpa, President of the NRNA New York Chapter.



Nepali community leaders emphasize that since its inception in 2016, the Nepal Day Parade has become a national festival for the Nepali diaspora in and around New York.
