Kathmandu: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal has called on South Korean investors to engage in the development and expansion of Nepal’s railway services. During a meeting with representatives from South Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), Minister Dahal emphasized the importance of rail service development as a strategic priority for the Nepalese government.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Dahal requested the South Korean delegation to invest in Nepal’s rail service. He suggested that studies and research be conducted to explore the expansion of rail services to cater to the country’s religious, cultural, and tourist destinations. The minister highlighted Nepal’s efforts to create a favorable investment climate and indicated that various investment models could be discussed.
Ministry Secretary Keshab Kumar Sharma noted the potential benefits of e-rail expansion in Nepal, citing the country’s significant hydropower production capabilities. Meanwhile, Sushil Gyawali, CEO of the Investment Board, announced plans to form a task force comprising experts from both nations to study different models for railway development and expansion.
Han Moon Hee, CEO of Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), shared insights into his company’s 126-year history and experience in railway development. He expressed KORAIL’s readiness to undertake assignments to enhance Nepal’s railway infrastructure.
