PM Oli Denies ‘Rumours’ About Legalising Polygamy

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has denied ‘rumours’ suggesting that the government is planning to amend the law to legalise polygamy. Addressing today’s session of the House of Representatives (HoR), the Prime Minister clarified that polygamy is not recognised under existing laws, and there are no plans to change that.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Prime Minister emphasized that the allegations were baseless and assured the members of the HoR of the government’s commitment to uphold democratic values. ‘It is completely untrue,’ he stated firmly. ‘Such a law is unimaginable for those who have fought for democracy.’

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amidst public speculation and media reports about potential legal changes regarding marital laws. However, PM Oli reiterated that the current legal framework, which prohibits polygamy, will remain unchanged. His statements aim to dispel any confusion and reinforce the government’s stance on the issue.
