Kathmandu: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, has announced that individuals over the age of 68 will receive social security allowances starting from the upcoming fiscal year. This announcement was made during a session of the House of Representatives where Minister Sudi addressed inquiries regarding the ministry’s plans.
According to National News Agency RSS, Minister Sudi emphasized the importance of implementing a one-door policy through the Social Welfare Council for better management of aid received from NGOs. He highlighted that the number of organizations under the council’s purview is on the rise, following the ministry’s communication with Nepal Rastra Bank to ensure funds are allocated only to council-approved projects.
Minister Sudi revealed that as of April 13 of the current fiscal year, 1,833 projects from 1,324 organizations have been approved. He also informed the House about the plight of individuals from the Dalit community in Shambhunath municipality-3, Saptari district, such as Magain Sada and Chandar Sada, who have been unable to access state facilities, including the senior citizen allowance, due to lack of citizenship documentation, despite being over 72 years old.
Earlier in the session, Speaker Devraj Ghimire read a letter detailing work responsibilities as received from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
