Kathmandu: The CPN (UML) has encountered complaints from eight district committees regarding the selection of representatives for the upcoming 11th general convention scheduled for December 13-15. The issues have surfaced as the party gears up for the significant event.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Secretary of the general convention representatives’ management committee, Madhav Dhungel, confirmed that the central office received complaints from eight districts concerning disputes in the representative selection process. These complaints highlighted procedural gaps in the selection process.
Dhungel specified that complaints were received from Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Dang, Banke, Bajhang, Tanahun, Bara, and Rautahat, where representatives were reportedly not selected in accordance with due process. He assured that the disputes in these districts would be addressed promptly.
The selection of representatives for the UML’s forthcoming national general convention took place on Saturday. Approximately 2,200 representatives are being chosen from the organized party members of the UML. The party has allocated a quota to ensure at least one youth representative from each federal electoral constituency. Moreover, 45 representatives will be selected from provincial committees, around 1,000 from parliamentary constituencies, 47 from special district committees, 81 from the Dalit community, and 40 from trade unions.
As per party rules, 354 representatives from the organizing central committee will automatically qualify to attend the convention. Additionally, 29 representatives from the Central Discipline Commission, 30 from the Audit Commission, 25 from the Election Commission, and 25 from the Advisory Council will also participate automatically, increasing the total number of automatic representatives to 464.
