Nabiganj: National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr ASM Amanullah announced today that honours-masters courses will not be introduced indiscriminately in educational institutions across the country. This decision aims to maintain the quality of higher education.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Amanullah made these remarks while addressing a programme organized to mark the graduation (pass) affiliation of Dinarpur College in Nabiganj, Habiganj. He emphasized that during the previous government’s tenure, many educational institutions were permitted to offer honours-masters courses based on political considerations, adversely affecting the quality of education.
Professor Amanullah highlighted that the commercialization of education by the former government, driven by political motivations, occurred despite the lack of necessary institutional infrastructure. Many institutions, lacking trained faculty, laboratory facilities, libraries, seminars, proper classrooms, and even basic sanitation, managed to introduce honours and masters programs through political lobbying.
The NU VC issued a stern warning against the unauthorized launching of such programs, stating that legal actions would be swiftly undertaken after a thorough evaluation of the educational activities involved.
The programme was presided over by Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Anupam Das Anup and attended by the principal, teachers, and students of Dinarpur College. At the event’s conclusion, Professor Amanullah paid homage to the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising by placing a wreath at their altar.
