BP Koirala Cancer Hospital Launches ‘Flow Cytometry’ Test

Chitwan: The BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Chitwan has launched the ‘Flow Cytometry’ test, a procedure designed to identify specific variants of blood cancer. This development marks a significant step forward in the hospital’s capabilities to diagnose and treat blood cancer locally.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the hospital has provided necessary training to doctors and technicians to facilitate the implementation of this test. Since the launch, more than 90 individuals have already undergone the procedure, as confirmed by Dr. Greta Pandey, Chief of the Lab Department at the hospital. Previously, patients had to send samples to India for testing, incurring high costs. The new service allows patients to undergo the test for Rs 12,000 within Nepal.

Flow Cytometry is an advanced diagnostic test performed on bone marrow samples from patients with blood cancer. This service was made possible after a doctor and a technician were trained at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital in India.

Dr. Shivaji Poudel, Executive Director of the hospital, highlighted the hospital’s efforts to expand its services by acquiring new equipment and enhancing the skills of its personnel. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to improve the effectiveness of cancer treatment at the facility.
