Minister Sudi Vows Rights to Disabled Persons

Kathmandu: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi has committed to ensuring the participation of disabled persons in policy and decision-making levels. In a recent address at a program organized by the Society of Deaf Blind Parents Nepal, Minister Sudi emphasized his dedication to enforcing the ‘Act Relating to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, 2074’. He noted that people living with disabilities (PWD) can have representation either in person or through the organizations and associations with which they are affiliated.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Sudi assured that PWD’s access to various services and facilities would be guaranteed. He highlighted their rights to participate in elections and even be elected through voting. Minister Sudi emphasized the need to empower PWD to enable them to claim and enjoy their political, social, economic, and cultural rights.

Society Chairman Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa pointed out that the Act on the rights of PWD had ensured their access to educational institutes, residences, workplaces, and buildings, but the practical implementation remained inadequate. The Society, established in 2005, focuses on identifying individuals deprived of sight and hearing and providing them with necessary assistance, including training for empowerment and enjoyment of rights.
