Feasibility Study Launched for Lake Construction in Jaljala Area

Pokhara: A feasibility study has been initiated for the construction of a lake in the Jaljala area of Kalanjar Hampal, a significant natural and religious tourism site located at the intersection of the Myagdi, Parbat, and Kaski districts. The initiative aims to develop the Jaljala area, which stretches into multiple rural municipalities, as a religious and tourist attraction.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Jaljala rural municipality’s Vice-Chairperson, Deepak Acharya, announced the study to explore the potential of the area, situated over 3,200 meters above sea level, for boosting tourism. The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Office in Pokhara has allocated a budget of four million rupees for the feasibility study and to prepare a detailed project report within the current fiscal year.

A team led by office chief Bidur Man Shrestha, including Vice-Chairperson Acharya, political party representatives, and employees, visited the proposed lake construction site last week. Acharya noted that the team assessed the geographical features, feasibility, environmental impacts, water resource availability, and long-term implications of the lake’s construction. The site has been deemed appropriate for the project, and discussions were held regarding water resource management and safety measures.

Shrestha highlighted that the Kalanjar-Hampal and Jaljala area is poised to be developed into a hub for religious and touristic activities, drawing both domestic and international visitors following the lake’s construction.
