Bangladesh Sees $1.21 Billion Remittance Inflow in 18 Days


Dhaka: Expatriate Bangladeshis sent over $1.21 billion in remittances during the first 18 days of January in the 2024-25 fiscal year. The influx of funds provides a significant boost to the country’s economy, with both state-owned and private banks playing crucial roles in facilitating these transactions.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, state-owned and specialised banks accounted for $309.85 million of the total remittances, while private banks received $893.31 million. The data, released today by Bangladesh Bank, details the distribution among various banks.



Six state-owned commercial banks-Agrani, Janata, Rupali, Sonali, Basic, and BDBL-were responsible for receiving $258.87 million. Additionally, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, a state-owned specialised bank, received $50.98 million. Among these, Sonali Bank led with $74.64 million, followed closely by Agrani Bank with $66.79 million, Janata Bank with $60.43 million, and Rupali Bank with $56.95 million. Basic Bank received a smaller portion amounting to $0.06 million.



In the private sector, Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. received the highest remittance of $177.37 million, highlighting its significant role in the remittance landscape of Bangladesh.
